Muros Looks Seaward

The 21st century brought a new event whose aim is to celebrate Muros’s love for its sea, with a nod to olden times, but above all an acknowledgement that that bond is still very strong today.

This event is the Marine Culture Days, ‘Muros Mira ao Mar’ (Muros Looks Seaward).

Muros Looks Seaward

The scenery changes and goes back to the past.  The streets and the people dress up as in the old days, with bustling market stalls everywhere.  For a few days you can see the thousand facets of this marine culture up close.

Each year new initiatives emerge: old sailors recounting ancient tales; marine knot-tying workshops; exhibitions with women dressed traditionally; gamelas (traditional boats) putting out to sea again; talks about the most authentic aspects of our culture; netmakers hard at work; etc.

But above all they are holidays, happy days, party days.  Music encourages you to have fun, to go round the harbour and the rest of the town, to stop at the stalls, try the tapas and menus with the tastes of the sea.  There are activities designed for children too.  It is without a doubt a good time to come back to Muros.
