On the third weekend of July, “racing teams” from Galicia and elsewhere in Spain, and recently also from Portugal, come to Esteiro to display their contraptions, in which speed isn’t the only thing that matters: imagination, decoration and mechanical innovation have their place too.
In fact, the downhill race which was run for years gave way a few years ago to an exhibition around the O Maio circuit, at a controlled speed and keeping a safe distance apart. The festival, with more than twenty years’ history, overcame the spirit of competition, and for prize-giving purposes even the costumes worn by the drivers are taken into account.
